Correction Notes

We will be handling some non-scientific corrections in a new way. The idea is that when we have to correct something within an article and we do not want to run a formal correction, we'll edit and resupply the XML and PDF as usual, but at the same time, we'll add a descriptive note to each article file.

*Correction notes should be used very sparingly, only for very minor corrections like grammar. Correction notes cannot include grant or funding information, and it cannot affect the article metadata or scientific content of the article.

In the PDF, we'll add the note to the bottom of the last column, in the style of a footnote (see attached sample).

In the XML, we'll use the <notes> element, and it will be placed directly preceding <fn-group>.

e.g.,

</ref-list> <notes>
<title>Note</title>       <p>The Acknowledgements section of this article has been edited in the html and PDF         versions since initial publication. The print version remains         unchanged.</p>
</notes> <fn-group>

Again, this will not be for all corrections - only when requested by the Executive Editor.

Update from Rob's email 10/11/2013:

Hi all,

We've recently learned that PubMed is pulling funding info from PMC, and making this a part of the Medline record. We want to make sure that this information gets updated in Medline, so we will no longer use Correction Notes for updates to funding info - we'll need to run formal corrections.

Thanks,

Rob
